The three advantages of the Chinese troops was their training, discipline and their ability to travel and fight on the rugged terrain. They would hide from UN air during the day and attack in numbers at night. This prevented us from accurately estimating the size of their force. There bivouac and marching discipline was unmatched, this is what prevented the UN aircraft from spotting them, allowing them to move and or mass in large numbers without ever being detected. Their knowledge of the rugged terrain was their third great advantage. The Chinese soldiers moved without delay over the most mountainous rugged terrain with gear in hand while the UN forces relied heavily on roads.
