congrats.
set an agenda, look at the time, and then trim the meeting/time some and continue working at it, you get better as you go along. there’s lots of information to disseminate and get reports on but what are your priorities and what is important to you? I enjoyed the ability to set the direction of the ship, on what to train, what is important, isn’t important.
I never liked officers who were sticklers for spelling, font sizes, pretty slides, or turned Soldiers back because they forgot a comma on an MFR – I pointed out the misspelled word and asked them next time to try harder but signed the damn thing anyway.
eventually, you train your entire team to be on point and report actionable intel. they need to inform you, and you them, and that’s it, a quick communication that leads to action.
For me, I limited the 350-1, SHARP, MRT and EO to almost non-existence, had no incidents and a disciplined family-togetherness-like troop. Luckily my RCO and SCO were of like-mind, and Gen. Mattis has said as much recently, focus on defending the nation. So, training meeting was geared toward, “real” training and distractors with targets in mind, a destination and the way to get there, with several gates in between to judge progress make adjustments.
