Fort Leonard Wood:
You’ll be put up in an IHG room throughout the duration of your stay. This goes for all three branches there (Chem, Engineer, MP). They are generally nice rooms, most of them mirroring a typical hotel room. House keeping comes in once a week to change sheets and vacuum and clean the bathroom. There are three different living quarters. Sturgis Heights Apartment Complex is farther away from classes than Morelli Heights. Morelli is a newer complex, bigger rooms, right across from the main DFAC and Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (where classes are held). Sturgis tends to be described as a more “home-y” feel. Each have their positive and negatives but you can’t really go wrong. It’s a maximum 10 minutes to get anywhere on post.
The exception to this rule is if you are PCSing. If you will be staying at Fort Leonard Wood past your BOLC dates or you are assigned a follow-on school (even if it’s not at FLW), you will be given BAH and be required to find off post housing. You’ll want to find a place closer to post. The gate can be a pain in the mornings so remember you’ll have to plan accordingly for PT hours. Best bet is to find a roommate or two so you can pocket some extra BAH while there.
The general rule for most BOLC classes is that if you are enroute TDY or TDY in general, you will be given housing. However if you are PCSed you will be required to find your own living arrangements. Infantry and FA, due to the length of their BOLC classes, require you to PCS. Most other branches will set you up.
