Charlie: What do you think soldiers thought of their leadership at this point in the war? Why?

After the relatively quick push into North Korea, most soldier’s opinions of their leadership was probably positive. As they began to win more and more battles, cornering the enemy in their own country, the men fighting believed that the end was in sight. The weather also had not started to become unbearable yet. However once it was obvious that their was a lack of communication between major units leading to disorganization, I believe the soldiers lost some faith. Not so much in their Company Commanders or Platoon Leaders, who were suffering in the same conditions they were, but more in the higher command. It is also necessary to iterate that the counter offensive was occurring during the winter, which in Korea can be an extreme morale destroyer. The leadership of the divisions and brigades were continuously walking into coordinated traps set by the Chinese, while the men had little will to move with a purpose in order to avoid disaster until it was too late.
