  • Hello, I am a West Point cadet who recently had an interesting conversation in my PL300 (Military Leadership) class, and I was wondering how current and prior Platoon leaders thought about this: When you first arrive at your unit, you want to give a first impression such that your platoon respects you and understands your priorities, leadership philosophy, and etc.  As a result, you may appear a bit distant, rigid, and formal. How do you know at which point to transition such that you, as the PL, have closer (still professional) relationship with each of your soldiers such that they view you as a role model and identify with your values?
