@jayleen27, Scott is absolutely correct. There is only one place units and positions look like they do in the book, and that’s in the book. Don’t just expect differences and changes to what you think, embrace them! Find what works and incorporate it; find what doesn’t and lose it. If it doesn’t have an SOP, design it. It’s a good time no matter…[Read more]

brock.j.young replied to the topic When is “enough,” enough? Personal time expectations from NG and Reserves in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 4 months ago
Okay, we (the Reserve Components) have busted our butts to finally be considered equals with the AC, however the amount of requirements that are required in order to remain “ready” are oppressive, even for AC units. Now try meeting the same requirements with 39 training days a year. I’m not making excuses, just pointing out the difficulties…[Read more]

Traditional M-Day Guard/TPU Reserve leaders sacrifice a lot of personal time for military items between drills. However, do you compensate these leaders for their time? I’ll say this, not many units do. I think many leaders just don’t know the options available to them. Some options available to you are actually paying your leaders for their t…[Read more]

@bmcgarry great points, and this is totally something we as reserve component officers have to deal with.
Between drills. Everything your Soldiers do between drills is time not needed during drill. Preparing evaluations, preparing training classes, preparing counseling, completing online training, completing SSD, etc. It can all be done when…[Read more]

One of the main ideas behind these forums is preparing and setting the stage for future generations of leaders to be equipped and ready to take the reigns when we are long gone. I was first introduced to the idea […]

Intro! I’m Brock Young, one of the facilitators for the ARNG/USAR Community. I’ve been a member of the forums since 2012. I’ll admit much of that first years was spent as a lurker; checking out posts, downloading stuff I could use, but not much more. It was when I put together my first PSG counseling and posted it looking for feedback, that…[Read more]

Welcome to the ARNG/USAR Community, where officers of the reserve components can discuss problems, share products, mentor and seek mentorship from those who are or have experience with the unique challenges we face as Army National Guard and US Army Reserve officers. So go ahead and introduce yourself to the community; tell us a little about…[Read more]

Christian,
Show up with a hunger to lead and be motivated. That is it; that is all I am looking for out of a brand new 2LT.
Also, its much more important how your Soldiers and Leadership think of you on the last day rather than the first day. Authenticity is apparent from day one and should be apparent on the last day.
First impressions are…[Read more]
