    for my WFF: sustainment, it’s site occupation procedures, concealment and dispersion. A quartering party site-recce, IDs routes in/out and plans missions/movement in & out with enemy observation considerations. it’s actively reporting up enemy air (UAVs, quadcopters). most importantly, often-seen is forecasting requirements to limit time on the roads, high-speed avenues of approach and size of LOGPAC. It is also “cache”-ing as a method of resupply, essential in the defense, and supporting light infantry or dismounted force. That is, leaving supplies at a designated/agreed-upon grid so the infantry doesn’t expose its defensive ambush posture with big trucks rolling in.

    @logisticus,

    Maybe you can tell us a little bit more about logistics and deception. The Army relies on multiple forward, prepositioned supplies and staging areas such as Kuwait, Germany, and Korea to project combat power abroad (I don’t have the knowledge about any Army maritime prepositioning force (MPF) for the purpose of sustainment, feel free to educate me if we do). Arguably, these ‘Iron Mountains’ of supply are static and long pinpointed on most long-range enemy missile/ballistic systems.

    Can/should the Army get away from these iron mountains?

    What does a good logistician do to try and mask the nodes that connect the supply chains and make us less predictable?

    What are some challenges in establishing maintenance collection points, Battalion aid stations and other support areas when trying to mask signatures and conceal these critical assets?
