Charlie: What do you think soldiers thought of their leadership at this point in the war? Why?
At this point, weather was extremely cold but the fighting had to continue. Men from Task Force Faith met some of the most stubborn CCF- Sun Shih-lun’s troops. The enemy had “perfect intelligence” of where and when US troops were. Given that the situation significantly favored the enemy, TF Faith lost some of the higher ground and took heavy casualties. Yet, out of blue, General Almond flew in to give out three Silver Stars. Even Faith himself was confused and uncertain what the Silver Star was awarded for and threw his own Silver Star on the ground as soon as the general left. He also mockingly told his S3, MAJ Curtis that the Chinese “remnants [are] fleeing north”, clearly mocking General Almond’s inaccurate statement and false motivation speech.
