Personal Battle Rhythm
Fellow Warriors,
The tool(s) I’ve chosen to submit this week are a few examples of weekly and daily “battle rhythms” from a couple of assignments. These aren’t just for Battalion Level and above! I figured out this trick as a Company XO, continued it on Staff, Command… (I have one for my home life, too — shhhhh… don’t tell my wife that I use Army TTPs to manage the house).
For me, my “filter” is very porous. I get distracted easily. So, I need to “batch” tasks and dedicate time to commit effort and establish personal deadlines. It works, but in the words of LeVar Burton, “you don’t have to take my word for it,” https://www.brazen.com/blog/archive/career-growth/productivity-hack-work-more-efficiently-by-batching-your-time/
So, what’s your rhythm? When do you click “submit” on the 80% solution? When do you put the “do not disturb” sign on your door and do work? When are things from your team due to you on a recurring basis? Who is responsible for holding the team accountable to the rhythm of organizational efficiency…?
What are your internal suspenses? For my team of teams, I set only two goals. No late submissions to higher HQ on recurring products (that’s a battle rhythm event – so, no excuse) and No personnel actions stay on one person’s desk for longer than 72 business hours, ever. Personnel actions affect morale. They’re good enough and moving forward, or need edits and moving back, but they’re never “under review” longer than 72 hours… that’s not “under review” that’s either forgotten, lost, disapproved or indecisiveness.
Hope this helps!
