Something that really stood out to me throughout this chapter sequence was CPT Moray’s leadership style, or lack there of. It seems that CPT Moray was putting in the maximum amount of work possible in order to avoid conflict and stay out of the friction. Prior to the Captain’s involvement, I did not expect that his leadership would be worse than LT. McDonald’s. This is because, I naturally assumed that the higher ranking officer with more time on would have been the superior leader. However, this was not the case. CPT Moray did take an attempt to understand the men or the situation, rather than just focusing on being the furthest away from the actual conflict. LT. McDonough leads under an entirely different style; from the front with tenacity.

Joe, I think you make an excellent claim when you state the LT. McDonough was able to be efficient and effective through aggression. He managed to find that perfect balance of aggression and apply it properly in order to motivate his men to get the job done, and to do it quickly. If he seemed overly aggressive to any of the readers, I suggest that it just may be a result of comparing Lt. McDonough’s tenacity to the passive personality of CPT Moray.
