The mention of “IG” or Inspector General often brings a certain feeling when in a leadership position such as company command. Thanks to @pstofan, for bringing this topic to light.
In the CO/1SG course the IG’s office did come and speak to leaders. Specifically, they discussed the top three IG issues, explained the process, and discussed reprisals. The top three issues for commanders at the time were: personal conduct (non-support of family members), command management (corrective training), and personnel management (flags/bars).
1. I would have liked more critical discussion and examples on corrective training. I think it would have been helpful if the IG opened it up for more discussion among commanders.
2. Overall, I thought the IG brief and putting a name to face was helpful. I often called them and/or Legal as a sounding board to ensure we as leaders were doing the right thing.
Discussion:
1. “Would anyone have any tidbits they would have liked to see or know now about IG that they would have liked at the course (CO/1SG)?
2. What was your IG brief like at the course? What are your general thoughts about IG?
