Coming out of command and being given the opportunity to become an IG all my friends recoiled at the thought. After becoming certified I am surprised I had a decent command. The E8 I sat next to would say the same thing as he was coming straight out of being a 1SG.

George makes a great point. We are here to help just like legal. While we can’t give legal advice we can help with what we see and what the regulation or standard is. We have the time to read and dig into something. You as a commander don’t.

Most of the trends we see are non-support and treating people with respect. Higher ups get hemmed up for just not listening to a Soldier or just shooing them away. As a commander I spent most of my time talking to Soldier’s because of an issue. It’s what we do as CO’s. Yes IG’s get a bad name, but really after learning about it. I wish I would have used our IG team more as a commander, and not just saying to myself “oh great who did SPC Snuffy not pay support to now.”

I am a former commander and now a detailed IG. I can’t necessarily comment or give you much over the internet, but I would recommend you reach out to whatever IG you have and just let them know what you may be having an issue with. I bet you most are more than willing to assist.
