Great topic! I will offer two things I did as a commander. First, we did a troop-level dining out, which took dedicated planning and coordination but the Soldiers and their families really enjoyed the event. We were fortunate to conduct the dining out a few months after returning from a deployment, so it gave us a chance to recognize outgoing le…[Read more]

Can we add images yet to out posts/replies? I see the insert/edit image button on the bar, however when it pops up there is no way I see that I can upload or chose a picture to include in the post anywhere.
I’ve attached a screen shot of what I’m looking at.

Carla,
1. Likes and PIE are not yet available on discussions and/or replies. They currently only work on “tools” such as documents, interviews, SOPs, etc. This is a feature that we are working on.
2. We are not sure why items are showing up multiple times on their activity feed…thanks for finding that bug and we’ll look into it.
3. Th…[Read more]

Carla,
The tags that appear on a post/reply are the ones that have been applied throughout the thread, meaning that if the original post had a tag of “OPCON” then all of the replies after that will also be tagged with OPCON. For example, this reply has the following tags associated with it even though I haven’t added any. This is done so that w…[Read more]

@cptchristopherprice, Great topic and absolutely relevant. Morale is one of those combat multipliers that leaders, especially in the Guard and Reserves, overlook because they are so slammed with the avalanche of tasks and suspense items that inevitably make up every drill. Morale matters even more when going into a mobilization. What I did…[Read more]

Don’t ever be “that guy” who briefs that you are 100% on something that it’s almost impossible to get to 100% on.

It’s a little off topic, but one of the best ways I’ve found to stay intellectually stimulated is to write. Writing forces you to reflect on what you’ve read and your experience. Throughout the process you’ll find yourself developing and challenging your own thoughts, which then encourages you to research additional information to expand your…[Read more]

gary.m.klein replied to the topic Leader Development Versus Leader Training in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 4 months ago
I absolutely agree that there is a difference between “leader training” and “leader development.” A former CALDOL friend of mine defined these two “categories” as leader development (i.e. skills development) and leadership development (developing your actual ability to lead). I also agree with most of the discussions here that many units spend s…[Read more]

brock.j.young started the topic How are you an Advocate for your Component/Branch/The Army? in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 4 months ago
So you’re sitting on a plane (like I am now…) and someone inevitably asks you, “what do you do?”
How do you answer? (I did in my own way, but I’m curious about your answer)
Do you ‘wow’ them with your ROTC/USMA/LDAC exploits? Maybe some highlights from your last deployment?
Or do you take the opportunity to deliver an Army/ARNG/USAR message,…[Read more]

Want to know and understand why the Constitution clearly states that the government will “provide and maintain the Navy” while only “raise and support Armies” for no more than two years, visit Norfolk VA. The awesome power of Naval might on display is impressive.

And there is absolutely NO doubt that these massive beasts need to be maintained. While we ground pounding, snake eaters, like to think we’re all that’s needed to win America’s wars and project power, looking across the flight decks of a pair of Nimitz Class Carriers (Washington and Eisenhower), and about a dozen other cruisers and destroyers,…[Read more]
