JO Team started the topic Making the CCC Leap (May 2018 Jam Question) in the forum Junior Officer 7 years, 1 month ago
The Captain’s Career Course (CCC) plays a slightly different role for every junior officer. For some, it’s a time to absorb crucial info to aid in the transition from Lieutenant to Captain. For others, it’s the opportunity to look ahead to the next assignment/assignments and visualize your career path. For still others, it’s a chance to prepare…[Read more]

tiarawalz replied to the topic How do you stay healthy? in the forum Junior Officer 7 years, 1 month ago
Staying healthy for me usually involves signing up for a race of some kind to keep me motivated and focused on a goal. I have gotten Soldiers, Peers, and Coworkers to do some of these races with me too. It’s a lot of fun. Even when organized PT may disappear from the picture, working out is still a huge way to build teamwork, camaraderie, and…[Read more]

JO Team started the topic Stretching Scarce Resources (April 2018 JO Jam) in the forum Junior Officer 7 years, 2 months ago
We never seem to have enough resources to do everything we want. Sometimes, it’s because there simply isn’t enough to go around. Other times, it’s because we might not know about a particular option or avenue for resourcing. This month’s Jam question asks about your best sources of information for getting the most out of those scarce resources.…[Read more]

It’s a little more than CYA, it also helps you keep grounded as a leader as to what the decision was. What was decided? What was agreed upon? I look at my own command guidance as an azimuth check for myself. Am I (underline) adhering to the contract? Am I (underline) keeping my side of the contract?
But you’re correct, the counseling, the…[Read more] -

Digging into my upcoming annual training period (my company has been designated SIM Cell and OPFOR… yes, I bought a special uniform) I wanted to throw another point out another thing that would greatly help out commanders and PLs; go to your local Training Support Center (TSC). Walk around, get their catalog, see what they have…[Read more]

tiarawalz replied to the topic Inspiring Discipline (March 2018 JO Jam) in the forum Junior Officer 7 years, 3 months ago
As an Officer, I have always strived to lead from the front in terms of physical fitness. I believe that the discipline to stay physically fit can be modeled in other facets of our lives as well. Physical fitness is extremely important in the military, and I don’t believe you can preach that unless you are modeling it. I was always out at PT with…[Read more]

JO Team started the topic Inspiring Discipline (March 2018 JO Jam) in the forum Junior Officer 7 years, 3 months ago
When we polled JO members about topics we’re not discussing, one of the biggest vote-getters was ‘lack of discipline.’ This month’s Jam question focuses on the junior officer’s role in that challenge, with an opportunity for you to tell a story. Feel free to answer either or both, and look for follow-on questions later in the month from some of…[Read more]

@bmcgarry,
Very good point about the 1059s. As a former BN S1, I always told the unit’s to PERM the doc as soon as the SM gets back, but then that is also an ARNG thing. - Load More
