Congratulations! You’re just been assigned to Staff and are starting to crank away on your new job – new tasks to learn, new people to meet. But, then you start to see a small divide, a difference in the way that you’re instructed to treat your Battalion versus how to treat your Soldiers. Maybe it is when the BN is released early, but your…[Read more]

Team,
Does anyone have a company level Tactical SOP for sustainment units in the field. Concerning layout, defense plan, etc.? We are going to the field to do the lost art of “conduct unit defense” and I’ve noticed that there is a general lack of knowledge from me all the way down to the private on how to do this. I’ve been reading doctrine but I…[Read more]

In today’s complex environment, a leader can’t afford to only serve in key positions. They NEED those broadening assignments, that’s why they’re called BROADENING. They increase an officer’s perspective, knowledge, experience, and tools that they have at their disposal in order to be better leaders. I heard it said once that “there are no more…[Read more]

Hello, Staff leaders! My name is Mandi and I’m the new lead for the Staff Community. Â I’m incredibly excited and honored to step into this role.
As an AG officer, I have spent most of my career on staff at various unit levels, and for most of that time, this space here that you’re reading this on, this staff community, didn’t exist! Â That d…[Read more]

Something I have not seen mentioned yet (from myself included) is battle rhythm. Â For sure get that from the RIP, predecessor, or NCOIC. While you get your feet under you, you can at the very least nail the easy stuff and get “brownie points” for taking care of the meetings and facetime that you reasonably should be nailing.
I also saw NTC…[Read more]

With the new year, it’s time to refresh and take the time to get to know one another again. So if you haven’t already, please introduce yourself!
Since my introduction above (last year), I’ve taken command of an MP Company (M-Day), and am about to become an assistant BDE S3 Officer (AGR). My unit has been activated twice for law and order…[Read more]

All very good and valid points. Stay motivated even if you didn’t get top branch choice. You are still one of the few that gets to lead this nations young men and women. (Can I still say that?) Stay in shape and use this forum to learn and ask questions. I’m a logistics officer so if anyone has questions I am more then happy to help.

I agree with the comment made by Alex above. It will get you started with a paycheck which is nice and get you started with the school house and integrating with the Army life. It depends on what you branched but when I was at BOLC they had the 2LT’s working in the S1 or S3 section until their class date. Sometimes they got an OER and other times…[Read more]

Team — hot off the presses, THIS is the “talent management” book for everyone that chose “personal relationships” as their preferred method for exercising talent management. http://a.co/fgnzbf7. “It’s Personal, not Personnel” by COL(R) Campbell. A must read!
