@lavertym, you’ve hit the nail on the head. We are struggle to develop a holistic approach to reconnaissance and security in the BCT that includes UAS, radar, SIGINT, HUMINT, the Cavalry Squadron, and Battalion scouts. We’re looking everywhere and are seeing trees, but not the forest.
Sounds like you’ve a pretty good grasp on the concept, but if…[Read more]

Wendy,
Thanks for pointing this out. It didn’t load the first time and I think it should be there now. Enjoy and good luck!

Not too long ago I completed a full Personally Procured Move (Formerly known as a “DITY (Do it yourself)” or “Partial DITY” move and wanted to share the tips that I learned since we’re coming upon moving season. Attached is my “top 10” list of tips from my move. I rented a truck and had a number of lessons learned that I hadn’t considered when I d…[Read more]

Vanessa,
I think Brock hit the nail on the head. Ask him what is a MQ officer? The next question you need to ask is , “Am I a MQ officer?” Now, your senior rater will not be able to answer that at your initial counseling, but I would ask that question every time afterwards. It is an incredibly difficult question to ask, but we as leaders get paid…[Read more]

Scott,
I’m glad you found the post of value. I find I can’t emphasize thee for formations to develop a shared understanding for how they fight enough.
BCTs are currently struggling to embrace the reconnaissance fight as a ‘BCT fight’. For understandable reasons, the BCT Staff devotes a significant amount of time and effort to planning around…[Read more]

Vanezza,
Ray and Brock both brought up excellent points. A fun/different way of approaching this question would be to ask your Senior Rater , using five single works, what qualities he/she expects of a junior officer. This is a unique way of asking about his/her expectations of you, IMHO. Good luck!

I recently wrote a post for From the Green Notebook’s #DAWeek on Cavalry Operations and the need to ‘win the fight to see.’ I’d love to hear the community’s thoughts or opinions and engage further on the subject.

Ray,
I did catch the guidance from the CSA, and I plan to pass it along to help other leaders understand their influence extends into the cyber domain.  It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to use social media, your organization will and at some point, as we have all seen with trolling and other acts, it can become a leader’s decisive point.
