@celineoh, you’re absolutely right that interactions in a classroom and drastically different than ones face to face. I learned this as a cadet when I got back to my room one day to find my roommate taking her routine afternoon nap. But as I came in, another friend of ours was also in the room and it turns out they were talking about some pretty…[Read more]

Well, @logisticus, @celineoh, @adam.szczpka, @captaink2008, and all of the others who’ve taken the time to respond and or read this post, I’ve had the opportunity to try out my own personal actions on contact yet again.
Last night I received a cryptic message from one of my new Soldiers (I just inherited a detachment of 80, located 100+ miles…[Read more]

So this afternoon I left the hospital where I met with one of my Soldiers. He’s a solid SPC who’s been in about 12 years, has multiple deployments overseas, and was stationed in Korea, Germany, Kansas and FT Lewis when he was active duty. He’s got a fiance’ and a beautiful 8 month old baby girl. He’s one of the better SPC’s in my company,…[Read more]

Wade,
I would think there are only two real ethical/moral responsibilities you as a leader have in this situation;
1) You as a leader have the responsibility to the young officer and the tax payer to do everything you can to guide, coach and teach this young 2LT in order to help them fix their shortcomings. The USA spent a lot of tax payer money…[Read more]

Just published this and thought others could use it.
MP TACSOP specifically for an M-Day MP Company that’s been designated as a QRFÂ element, so it includes EDRE (emergency deployment readiness exercise) […]

This is a great tool! Getting this in a Word document would be a great help, too. I know it’s too large to download here, but is there any chance of emailing it?

@rakimball and Team,
Thanks for pushing the TACSOP via the dropbox!

Kenny,
First, I would recommend you not go in wanting your Soldiers to view you as a role model. Soldiers should view the NCOs as role models; someday for those who might want to go the “O” route, maybe.
If you want them to respect you, lead them. Show them you know what you’re doing, and are technically and technically competent. Show them…[Read more]

Patrick,
“Fire and replace” is absolutely one method I’m trying. I recently reiterated to my company that Soldiers should be hungry for their next promotion, and be doing the things that they need to do in order to be ready for it. Things like volunteering for training and teaching opportunities; going to schools when you’re eligible instead of…[Read more]

Along these lines, I’m dealing with this very situation right now.
I was tasked with a high level security mission (guarding an aircraft for a high level government official that may or may not rhyme with VPOTUS), with 24 hours notice, and needed 15 personnel; 1 officer, 1 SSG or above, and 13 PVT-SGT.
I got 3 volunteers. One of those was AGR…[Read more]

Trying to fight the IDGAF culture of the company I command. Had a mission pop up last minute; I have over 200 personnel assigned. I can’t get 15 volunteers for the mission – and in the Guard, unless it’s drill or a state call up, there’s nothing I can do about it.

I ran across this recently and thought I would share.
1) Never Stop Learning
Kirk never ceased to amaze us with his encyclopedic knowledge of technology over the ages. I remember one episode where he fashioned a cannon out of bamboo and made gunpowder from scratch … not bad for a boy raised in the age of Phasers.
What do you do to stay fresh, i…[Read more]

potential bug : a very quick double-click on a post / message post (like when I’ve imbibed too much coffee) will double post the content. To use really technical terms … is there a way for the site to recognize that a selection has been made / not use a double click to post or message someone?
And on a related note, there isn’t a way to delete…[Read more]
