This is great! My rule of thumb is that if I’m going to be gone for more than a long weekend, I’ll put something brief up. I find myself getting caught up in the trap of posting an out of office response and jumping back on my e-mail anyways and responding to messages. It’s definitely something I’ve had to work on and shake the habit.

Unity of effort is definitely the key, but this is always more challenging to achieve than unity of command. Leadership stereotypes exist but I think there’s a difference between being effective in your job/branch versus effectively leading Soldiers. Obviously, leaders need to understand the nuances of their MOS but effective leadership transcends branches.

Congratulations on your recent commission! You are in a great situation to complete some relevant OJT before attending BOLC. I’m not familiar with the specific job requirements of an XO at advance camp, but I think there are some areas you can focus on to help your company while simultaneously developing yourself.
