This is an excellent tool that my FSC gave me for CL III planning in the field. It is built for an ABCT but includes LINs for other vehicles used across the force. There is a LIN cheat sheet so you can enter yo […]

We are developing these two programs and need SOPs, yet no one in my battalion has one. I am hoping someone here can provide some templates.

I totally agree with you and the article. For years I thought I was the only one who thought this way. I am glad to see others who find no merit in this essay whatsoever.

I just got back from OSS and I might still have the OPORD for CO STX. I was not the planner so I cannot help you much with that, but if I can find the resources, they should be of help.

ae_rollinson replied to the topic PT in the Real Army in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 3 months ago
You asked “are most Soldiers in the Army unfit?”: No, I do not think so. Â I understand your confusion or perhaps culture shock when you compare your view of what PT looks like at WP versus in the “real Army”. Â Consider, first, the population difference both in age and in position. Â You’re looking at mid to late 20’s and people who’re going to be…[Read more]

ae_rollinson replied to the topic What are units doing to inform soldiers of the new retirement? in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 3 months ago
I think you’re right to point out that at the platoon level is where the most effective level where the discussion of retirement can take place.  Small groups are always more effective in this sense.  This then enables you to then make it more than “just online training”.  For me, this is why I see conversations with leaders in the unit is a Lon…[Read more]

ae_rollinson replied to the topic Leader Development Versus Leader Training in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 4 months ago
In short, I would say that “training” is objective standards (Â the requirements are to run a range IAW regulation and post guidance) while “development” is subjective (actually running the range, interacting with soldiers on it, having the experience of a convoy there, etc .)
I’d also add development requires the individual to mentally engage…[Read more]

What follows is a conversation overhead that even days after I am still mulling over it’s validity – in short, the role of introversion and extroversion in leadership.
-Officer 1: You need to tell (Soldier X) to step up and stop being content sitting in the corner.
-Officer 2: Sir, I think he struggles because he’s an introvert … (i…[Read more]

@jsnow2 , you asked what is being done at the unit level in FORSCOM. Â Here’s what I’m doing in my unit. Â As the Squadron S1, Â I reviewed the DEPSECDEF’s memo that goes over the whole transition (available via S1Net on MilSuite), then sent a task out via the weekly tasking order that Soldiers have until 1 November to do the training (yes, I kn…[Read more]

ae_rollinson replied to the topic Books every cadet and 2LT should read in the forum Junior Officer 8 years, 4 months ago
My recommendations:
– “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card (the level of self-reflection that Ender goes through is shocking because of how self-reflective it is a reader who is a leader. Â It’s an unsettling book to read, and that’s why I recommend it)
– “Steal Like an Artist” Â by Austin Kleon (especially the concepts of ‘do good work and share i…[Read more]
