NCOER Training/Classes: Support Forms and NCOER Writing
Attached are 2 classes I put together to train officers and NCOs on NCOERs and NCOER Support forms (this class can also be used to create and understand OER Support forms).
NCOER Class: Writing the NCOER; Basics and Art of Bullet Writing:
This class goes into the “nuts and bolts” of writing evaluations, and dives deeper into the “art” of writing bullets and senior rater narratives. It is a basic class on building NCOER from part I through V, explaining box by box, how the NCOER is built, what goes into each box, giving as many examples as I could fit for each (without the class being 100 slides long). It then rolls into explanation on using bullets to say what you want to say about an NCO, be they good, bad, or mediocre. When I say “art” I mean writing bullets to convey your meaning, giving them actual thought and not just using canned bullets.
Developing and Using the NCOER Support Form (Old and New): How and Why:
This class explains how and why leaders need to utilize the NCOER Support form when counseling your NCOs, and how to develop the performance objectives in order to ensure your NCOs know what standard they are trying to meet (it can also be used for developing OER Support forms). It breaks down HOW to fill out the meat of the form (Parts III through V), and WHY it\’s important to counsel your NCOs using it. This particular PowerPoint is designed with the NEW NCOER support form (2166-9-1A) in mind, however could be used as a guide to develop the older form (2166-8-1), as well as the OER Support Form (67-9-1; with a few minor tweaks). It will also explain why you as a leader should use the NCOER Support Form (in addition to DA Form 4856s) to do so.
Like most of my classes, these are designed to either be taught as a PowerPoint classes in a group setting, or be a stand-alone documents someone who has with little-to-no idea on how to write an NCOER can use on their own.
These are companion classes to the Intro to EES — What YOU need to know, Mixed with some Eval Basics (Class for Drill) class that is loaded here on PO. Also of use in developing NCOERs is NCOER Duty Descriptions and Assignment Info.
