Shop/Bench Stock for SBCT on move
In summer of 2016, to meet LTG Hodges' guidance and intent on "Freedom of Movement", my maintenance tech and XO ordered the following (nearly $400k-worth of) bench/shop stock for our SBCT engineer formation as we deployed to 8 countries and road-marched all along the eastern flank of NATO. We were the only squadron, thanks to "Chief" and some excellent mechanics, to not have to tow a single vehicle during our road march, which met the intent of reassuring our partners and allies.
This bench-stock fit neatly into a 20-foot container that we carried on the back of an LHS. Did we pull a Stryker engine on Day 1 of RSOI in Iasi? Yes, and with the FSR, had the Stryker ready to roll the next day on convoy. What chief and mechanics in 2 CR attained was the highest ORR in the Army for also the oldest Stryker vehicles in the Army.
