Knowing what you do now as a post-CCC Captain, what preparation would you have done differently before and during the CCC to get what you wanted out of it?
During:
Take the GRE or GMAT. Someone has already said it, but CCC is all about development both professionally and personally. Use the time the Army gives you set your self up for a graduate…[Read more]

We had two international students in my small group, one from Colombia, the other from Saudi Arabia. The Colombian put in all the hard work one would expect from an opportunity to study abroad, while the Saudi Arabian did not even put in the effort to pass the minimum standard. If he showed up to PT, he refused to work out, and just walked around…[Read more]

Chad – YES! I also create my Continuity Book during my LS/RS of a new job. I’m learning how to do the new job, so I might as well turn my notes into a How-To for someone else. A monthly Calendar reminder is a great idea! I should add that into my battle rhythm. My additions tend to be conditions (not time based) (basically, when I have time to…[Read more]

It’s May now and the sun is rising earlier in the day, kids are almost done with school for the year, and the days are getting hotter. That means one thing in the military … PCS Season is upon us.
With PCSing comes significant transition, for any unit or team. Â While there are many methods to smoothing over these transitional times, one is the…[Read more]

Staying healthy for me usually involves signing up for a race of some kind to keep me motivated and focused on a goal. I have gotten Soldiers, Peers, and Coworkers to do some of these races with me too. It’s a lot of fun. Even when organized PT may disappear from the picture, working out is still a huge way to build teamwork, camaraderie, and…[Read more]

I agree with the above. Also get the EST prior to and if possible with the range. Docs, Nurses and allied health specialists don’t range often. They typically are the least comfortable with weapons. The EST is an outstanding marksmanship tool. You can do all the PMI aspects in a safer environment, develop familiarity with the weapon and even…[Read more]

Deliberately not a reward system? Yes. I’ve been in units that advertised a reward at 270, only to rewrite the policy to 300 when too many qualified for the reward. With as many seasoned personalities as we have, I didn’t think a reward system would be believed or effective for those not meeting that standard already, and they essentially qualify…[Read more]

Ron,
Here is a CONOP my MED TM Detachment did for a M9 range. Also, listen to Steve… he kind of hits everything I would say.
I hope this helps.

Vanezza, I had a very similar experience as a 2LT on Bde staff of a MI BDE . My first formation I watched dumbfounded as all the officers walked away from the formation, some right back into the building for work. Â Wasn’t PT a group activity in the Army? The CC came up to me and my peer, and asked us if we had a PT plan. Â I pulled an index card o…[Read more]

Adam, a written plan can definitely help Soldiers (and anyone) reflect on what they are currently do versus what they need to do to make a change.  You’re seeing a numerical, objective  change in APFT scores. Are you seeing a cultural shift as well? Was it a deliberate decision to not have a reward system for high APFT scorers to pair with your p…[Read more]
