I would recommend waiting the first 30 days before giving an initial counseling with your PSG. You need to observe your PSG in a leadership role and how the platoon works with him or her. In the short amount of time as a junior officer my experience and relationship with my PSGs have been diverse. I’ve had 4 different PSGs all with different leadership styles and work ethic. The best advice I can give to other junior officers is have the ability to adapt and learn from your NCOs.
