Any update to this? How did it turn out? Did the Soldiers learn anything decent? Will they defend against an Atropian hoard?

You both hit the nail on the head with a lot of this. On to finances though. Start your retirement now. Put a few percent into the TSP or BRS if you so choose. It’s great now that the government will match what you put in now too. It’s easier to increase when you are young and single for each year then not having anything started when you start a…[Read more]

Thanks! I was in command for about 20 months, of a FA Foward Support Company.
As for the POC, I’ll reach out to my Replacement who just attended the course and DM you when I get it!

Great topic, wanted to add some input. I am currently mid-stride of my post-command broadening opportunity…
Pursue broadening opportunities! Pursue broadening opportunities!
You will struggle to find mentors that can advise you on broadening opportunities because broadening assignments are by their very nature unique. So, most mentors have…[Read more]

Here’s an old conversation from last year about finances that also ties into balancing large purchases: https://juniorofficer.army.mil/discussion/living-conditions/#post-793
Here’s my take on your categories:
Kitchen –
CrockPot v2 – InstaPot or a digital crockpot. DO NOT get an IoT pot, it’s not worth the security issue and you’ll be too busy to…[Read more] -

1) Broadening Opportunities – I will say that overall, I suggest that Broadening is being seen as not a deviation as the next step after KD. Go ahead a check out the Smartbook PAM 600-3 (via MilSuite, under S1Net) and you’ll see that is expressed under your branch’s career chart (possibly called the Talent Management Career Timeline now). I will…[Read more]

@tiarawalz, this is as also what I got out of the course and could not have said it better myself! This course was more about the relationships and resources, and less about the 1,000s of Slides they shoved at us!
I went to the Fort Hood course, and I thought they did an outstanding job of balancing in class with guest speakers with field trips…[Read more]

I also had pleasure of meeting those amazing Leaders aforementioned, among many others through this forum andoperational force! I think that knowing that inspirational leaders truly exist in the military was my reason for aiming to excel at all my positions, and especially at Company Command, where we are all lucky enough to impact…[Read more]

Michael,
Welcome back from the field. I love a point that you made, their success directly contributed to my team’s success. Such a crucial concept that gets missed in too many leadership books. We are only as successful as we allow our teams to be.
As to logistics, I think a key to success is understanding if I don’t have it, where can I ge…[Read more]

@brittany.rodriguez – tracking the thread. Awesome question, Brittney. I’m going to have to wrack my brain and consult some resources, so hang tight for a few days and early next week I should be able to post some resources. I admit that I’ve only worked with officers going the other way (RA to USAR), and while USAR is also controlled by HRC,…[Read more]

Warriors,
This month’s JAM Question was about discipline. Now that we’ve had a few weeks to let it simmer in our brains, I wanted to stretch the conversation into the month of April for this important topic.
I would really like to hear your thoughts because reading the replies to the original post, I noticed something AWESOME. There was a…[Read more] -

Team,
I came across this community on the google machine while researching the process to switch over to Active Duty from the Reserves. I’m currently a 1LT and I’ll submit my CPT board later this month. I enlisted in 2010 and in Spring of 2011 I signed my ROTC Non-Scholarship contract. I commissioned in 2013 and my Expiration Statutory Military O…[Read more]

Paul,
I tried for a few when I was done command. The William and Mary would have been a great choice if I got it. I think the timeline may not work out for you now though.
My friend did the Georgetown fellowship and he didn’t really want that Masters, but he is making great connections in his job as an intern that will end up taking him to his…[Read more]
